Del Piero ended his season with a tally of 21 goals in the Serie A
Juventus and Sampdoria ended their season with an enthralling fixture that produced 6 goals. Del Piero scored Juve’s first early on the first half thanks to a great Nedved assist, while Trezegeut made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after Del Piero was fouled in the 16th minute. Zebina could have claimed an immediate second penalty for the Bianconeri after he was fouled in the area but this time the referee did not whistle. Juve looked strong with a 2 goal lead but Sampdoria never gave up and they made a huge comeback. Cassano notched a fine goal which was practically deflected in Belardi’s net by Juve defender Molinaro. Maggio then equalled the score and Juve nearly lost it all after Chiellini fouled in the area and Sampdoria earned a penalty on the stroke of halftime. Cassano sent the penalty straight into Belardi and half-time ended 2-2.
The second half was less interesting but Juve still showed signs of domination. They took the lead again thanks to a Del Piero penalty after defenders could not cope up with him, he was ultimately fouled in the area. 3-2 for Juve as they were a man down having Sissoko sent off in the early moments of the second half. Montella then wrapped the match up as a draw scoring in the 80th minute. Nedved had a good effort parried by Mirante deep into stoppage time.
Tiago who possibly played in his last match with the Vecchia Signora had a very good game and could have assisted Nedved with a fine goal had Nedved not sent his effort high and wide. A good game for the Portuguese international and a good way to end his career with Juve. Ranieri could have hanged on to Del Piero but decided to sub him off and send Marchionni instead of him. Utterly confusing decision by the former Chelsea coach, while the Golden Boy was on his way to a hat-trick.
