Tranmere Rovers redefined the footballing cliché of “smash and grab” today at Meadow Lane as they beat Notts County 1-0. Under the cosh for 95% of the game, Rovers managed to come away with a third 1-0 win in a row, the goal from Enoch Showunmi being our only shot on target.
It’s a fourth league win out of our last five games which leaves us in 14th place in the table and near the top of a pack of eight teams separated by just three points. Ourselves on 22 with Plymouth in 20th place on 19. It took us 24 games to get 22 points last season but a marked improvement has seen us reach that total in 7 games less; a testament to Les Parry and the squad on the whole.
It was by no means our best performance of the season but it could well be one of our best results of the season and it could end up proving to be crucial come May. Notts County were unlucky not to get something from the game in all honesty but we got the win so I’m not complaining.
Joss Labadie’s sending off has been waiting to happen for weeks. I’m not sure what preceded the incident but it’s safe to say that Labadie won’t have kicked Ravenhill for no reason at all. That said, it’s something we need to get out of Labadie’s game as he has the potential to be a very good player but his attitude does tend to leave a lot to be desired.
Hartlepool will pose a tough test on Tuesday night given some of their recent results so we’ll need to improve before Tuesday night but I think we’ll have a bit more freedom as we’re the home team. Hopefully another three points to push us further away from the bottom four.
