Stoke have completed the signing of 32 year old Danish international ‘keeper Thomas sorensen on a free transfer following his release from Aston Villa. The commanding 6’5″ stopper joins on a three year contract. Sorensen has been capped 72 times by his country.
Tony Pulis is clearly delighted with the signing, saying, “Thomas is a fantastic acquisition, he has played almost 400 games in the Premier League and been number one for Denmark for a very long time.” Pulis, clearly a fan, added, “The fact that we have got Thomas on a free transfer too is superb business for us, because I believe he is a very, very good goalkeeper.”
Thomas will doubtless become the first choice ‘keeper for City’s debut season in the Premier Leafue, and the signing all but rules out the £3 million deal for Sunderland’s Hungarian international Marton Fulop being completed. I see this as good news, as in Sorensen we have got a very able ‘keeper and saved £3 million to spend elsewhere. It’s also heartening to see such a quality free transfer being made when fellow Premier League newcomers Hull are reduced to making free transfers such as (with all respect to the players) Tony Warner and Bernard Mendy, who recently gave away two penalties and missed one in a 4-0 thrashing by Crewe.
