The decline of Inter Milan

Inter Milan’s chances of qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Europa League, suffered a meteoric blow, as they suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.

An in-form Gareth Bale made sure that he did just enough, to show Inter Milan the exit door. Inter Milan are slowly moving towards, what you call a decline. After being one of the most successful clubs in, not only Italy, but the entire Europe, Inter suffered to make their mark over the past two seasons. The decline has come as a shock to all the football fans, around the globe. There are several factors leading to this conclusion with aged players being a major one. Most of Inter’s main players have aged and now, they’re an easy side to tire out of the game.

You look at Zanetti, Cambiasso, Milito. Despite being highly experienced, their impact in matches has lessened with time. Then, at the back, having a look at Inter Milan’s centre back pairing that is really inexperienced. So, the blend of youth and experience, certainly not going Inter’s way. More importantly, Inter have failed miserably in the transfer window.

The fear that Samuel Eto’o struck into the hearts of many defenders, decreased with time and his departure to Russia. Inter failed to replace his excellence in the attack, with Diego Forlan proving to be a big flop in Italy. Wesley Sneijder’s move to Galatasaray and Philippe Coutinho’s to Liverpool, further weakened the team.

Although, there is not a specific person who can be blamed for Inter Milan’s gradual decline, Inter need to make a few excellent signings inorder to lift up their performances and push for that Champions League spot. Inter need someone who can come for a small transfer fee but make a big impact, on the game. Someone like Arturo Vidal, who can pull the strings in the midfield, make useful contributions and can attack when required as well.
