Thomas Frank was this afternoon asked directly about Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Eberechi Eze.
The 27-year-old Crystal Palace playmaker is a long-term Spurs transfer target and this week it was reported that Tottenham had revisited their Eze interest.
Rivals Arsenal are also keen on the player who has starred for the Eagles in recent seasons, but following James Maddison’s ACL tear earlier in pre-season, Spurs stepped up their pursuit.
The North London club are hopeful of adding Eze to their roster of talent as Frank looks for flair players in attack.
Thomas Frank was coy on Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze
Eze’s £68million release clause is believed to expire this Friday which would force clubs to perhaps accelerate their efforts to land him before his price skyrockets.
Frank, thanks to Ange Postecoglou’s efforts last term, can offer Eze his desired Champions League football and that could work in his favour. And now the Danish coach has responded to a direct question from the media about interest in Eze.
“I think there are a lot of good players out there,” Spurs’ coy boss smiled.
“There are also a few from the PSG team but I don’t think we can buy them right now.
“So in general, players in or players out, I always speaking about something that is done or not done. In general, I will speak about my own players.”
It was a masterful act in dodging the question from Frank but he did not rule anything out at this stage.
Spurs have already spent €145m on transfers this summer with Mohammed Kudus being the highest profile acquisition at just under €64m.
How much Eze would cost Tottenham or Arsenal
That shows owner Daniel Levy is certainly not scared to spend money but it would have to be on the right player, which 12-time capped England man Eze would surely be.
If Spurs could land the attacking superstar, it would surely be a hammer blow to their rivals Arsenal with manager Mikel Arteta seemingly desperate to bring him in.
The Gunners have, like Spurs, spent big this window at around £200m and another hefty chunk of change would be necessary to prise Eze away from Selhurst Park.
Why is Eberechi Eze in such high demand?
The player has become one of English football’s most sought after talents after joining the Eagles from QPR back in 2020.
He scored the winner in last season’s FA Cup Final.
Palace are reluctant to sell their star man – especially considering Liverpool are closing in on Marc Guehi – with both players key to their club right now.
That would leave manager Oliver Glasner looking for first-team ready stars to replicate the talents of those he looks set to lose.
