Thurrock 2-0 Dagenham & Redbridge

An uninspired Daggers team went down 2-0 tonight at the hands of Thurrock.

With a first team of half youngsters, half first team squad, it was going to be interesting how the team gelled together.

However the Daggers never got started and midway through the first half 3rd choice goalkeeper Dave Hogan showed exactly why he’s behind Tony Roberts and Ed Thompson in the pecking order with a woeful flap at a corner leading to an easy header into the gaping goal.

Five minutes before half time Thurrock doubled their advantage as young Michael Alaile wasn’t strong enough to hold off the striker who nipped in to slot past Hogan for 2-0.

The second half saw the Daggers have a lot more of the ball but failed to penetrate with the final ball. A problem which still remains from last season.

Individually, wantaway midfielder Glen Southam will be dissapointed with his performance if any scouts were watching whilst Jon Nurse has seemingly carried over last seasons form into this one already.

Nevertheless it’s still early days yet but the Daggers will need to step it up another two or three gears in the coming weeks if they are to be at an acceptable level to push on up Coca Cola League 2.
