Tottenham Are Back

No, Tottenham aren’t chasing 4th place if that’s what your thinking, what I mean by this is that the old Spurs who where always conceding late, late on, are infact well and truly back.

As of 11th December, here’s a list of all the goals past the 80th minute that tottenham have conceded:
Duff- 90th minute- Newcastle won 2-1.
Bednar- 83rd minute- West Brom won 2-0.
Beattie- 94th minute- West Brom won 2-0.
Camara- 88th minute- Wigan lost 3-1.
Figueroa- 91st minute- Wigan won 1-0.

That’s an incredible 5 goals, it cost Tottenham 3 points in the league- which could be vital come the end of the season.

I’m sure all you spurs fans remember the 05/06 season under Martin Jol, we chased a Champions League spot, but again we conceded a lot of late goals. There is no comparison between this season and that season, which is exactly my point, back then- we could afford to concede late goals, as it didn’t really affect us too much, but we are in a relegation battle now, it’s not glamorous or flash; just about getting points, and right now, we can’t get any for love nor money.

Now, about the Wigan goal on Sunday; it came from a corner, which again shows shades of the past. It was Jenas who was meant to be marking the goalscorer, and the determination to get his head on the ball clearly wasn’t there, he simply jumped because he knew he had to. Captains and Vice-Captains should lead by example, so if it is true that Jenas has been stripped of Vice-Captaincy, then I don’t think it’s such a bad thing.

Tottenham’s next game is against Portsmouth at home, after the controversy of the last time these two teams played, involving Campbell, this game is sure to be red hot. We shouldn’t overlook Redknapp and Defoe either, who are facing the side they where both at 4 months previous.
