Tough Run-In For Reigning Champions

Reigning and defending world champions Italy are preparing for two testing forthcoming friendlies, where they will face Mexico and Switzerland in the space of just two days.

The Azzurri first take on Mexico in Brussels on June 3rd; a tough opposition, who will no doubt give the Italians a feel of the competition on offer at this summers World Cup.

A tight turn around will see them travel straight to Geneva on the 5th to face Switzerland for their second friendly. Seen as a similar type of opposition to those Italy will face in the group stages, the Swiss will test them with their attacking mentality, boasting the likes of Frei up front.

Manager Lippi is expected to mix things up across both games, handing starts to the majority of his provisional squad members in either game, giving him a clear insight as to how his side could fair in South Africa and who to leave at home when selecting the final 23.

Italy (like England in 2006) will face Paraguay in their opening group game in Cape Town on June 16th and all eyes will be on the Azzurri as they aim to defend their World title.
