The French squad will be training tonight at 19:00 at the Stadium de Toulouse, where they will be getting more familiar with the pitch ahead of their preparation match against another South-American side, Paraguay.
The last match of the French national team that was played in Toulouse was between France and Cyrpus (World Cup 2000 qualification) on the 18th November 1989, which the Blues won 2-0. The goals were scored by Didier Deschamps (25′) and Laurent Blanc (75′). France did not qualify for the 1990 World Cup, held in Italy, as they were eliminated in the qualifying stage. France were playing in Group 5 in the same group as Yugoslavia, Scotland, Norway and Cyprus. Yugoslavia and Scotland qualified for the 1990 event, with 14 and 10 points respectively. France got 9 points, just ONE less than Scotland, but enough to miss the 1990 tournament.
Hopefully, the Toulouse stadium will bring them better luck than last time, ahead of a tough Euro 2008 group where they will have to face arch-rivals Italy, Netherlands and Romania.
