Tranmere Rovers 2-0 Coventry City

Well I think I speak for all the travelling sky blue army when saying what a waste of money that was! I feel sorry for every one of us, we haven’t had anything to be happy about since the days in the Premier League which even I don’t remember as I was 5 when we was relegated. Starting out at 11am this morning very excited which was soon changed once 5pm struck as I was brought down to reality that we are just a poor footballing side. I think it’s fair to say Richard Shaw has blown his shot at becoming the new Coventry manager; the City legend has only got one performance out of the players from five games so I think that’s him out. Whoever is the new manager they certainly need to get a confident mentality in the team as soon as possible. We have been dreadful all season and now being 2nd from bottom is there another relegation dogfight on the horizon? Let’s hope not.

On to the footballing side, Coventry had the same line up but John Fleck was named on the bench since returning from injury as well as Roy O’Donovan. The first half didn’t produce a lot for either side with the early chance going to Coventry as David McGoldrick shot just flew past Owain Fon Williams goal, they went even closer with Carl Baker cutting in side to send a shot in which had Williams scrambling at his left hand side. Wasn’t much to get excited about but the passing by the away side getting “ay” with every pass, the chant “It’s just like watching Brazil” soon followed. More like watching Sunday League. The home side started to show why they are 2nd in the League with this victory sending them top, as Jean Akra-Akpro latched on to a cross to just narrowly blaze over the bar from a few yards out. The last action of the half went to the home side again as another good ball into the back post was connected by on loan Wolves youngster Jake Cassidy who couldn’t get a clear head on the ball. First half ended goalless; however it was a very feisty game with high foot tackles going in all over, thought they could have had a red card personally.

Second half started off like the first for Coventry as long range efforts by Adam Barton who looked lost for most of the game went wide and also Carl Baker’s free kick fired high over the bar. Personally thought we had the better chances all in out just didn’t take them so fair play to Tranmere. Best chance went to the away side as a Stephen Elliot cross was met by Carl Baker who header rattled the bar. Adam Barton had the last real chance for the sky blues with his long range shot was tipped over the bar by Williams. Coventry really lost their way after that as on 79th minute Jake Cassidy caught on to a through ball from James Wallace which from where I was looked like megged a City defender, Cassidy slid home with his shot somehow going into the net. The away side sadly bottled it after that as they were caught on the break with player of the month Andy Robinson there to meet the cross from substitute Joe Thompson, the skyblues tried to come back with brining O’Donovan, McSheffery and Fleck on but neither could make a difference. Full time Tranmere Rovers 2-0 Coventry City. Attendance 6,087 fans with the majority going home happy. 500+ Coventry away fans who were great today as always went home like usual, cheated, frustrated and thinking, we need a miracle. The home side have got off to a fantastic opening 6 games, Coventry on the other hand, just like last season. Sort it out!  Be very interesting to see who comes in now. Roll on Shrewsbury Tuesday.
