Coventry City earned 16 points more than any other team in the EFL Championship during 2025.
The Sky Blues finished the year on a low by losing 2-0 at home to Ipswich on Monday evening in their final fixture of 2025. That brought an end to a difficult December in which Coventry also lost away to Ipswich, before dropping further points against Preston and Southampton.
Despite taking just eight points from a possible 18 in December, Coventry scored more Championship goals and won more games than any of their rivals over the calendar year.
Coventry — who won all five of their games in November — also conceded the fewest goals and suffered the fewest defeats of any team that played at least 25 Championship matches in 2025.
Second behind Coventry in the 2025 EFL Championship calendar year table was Millwall, who ended 2025 by beating Bristol City 2-1. Bristol City themselves were third, while Middlesbrough and Sheffield United ranked fourth and fifth respectively.

Coventry took 34 more points than in 2024
Coventry’s Championship points total for 2025 was 34 points higher than their 2024 tally. Coventry took 58 points from 45 games in 2024, which left them 12th in that calendar year table.
Much of their dramatic improvement was down to manager Frank Lampard, who succeeded Mark Robins in November 2024.
Lampard has transformed Coventry tactically, making them solid defensively and much more potent going forward.
Monday’s defeat by Ipswich was only Coventry’s third league loss this season and they will begin the New Year as firm favourites to secure promotion to the Premier League.

Coventry City finished top of the Championship calendar year table for 2025 thanks to a huge upturn in form under Frank Lampard
Leeds and Burnley both won more points per game than Coventry in 2025
Although Coventry earned more Championship points than any other club in 2025, both Leeds and Burnley recorded higher points-per-game averages.
Leeds and Burnley were promoted to the Premier League at the end of the 2024/25 season, having each finished the campaign with 100 points.
The Clarets — the only Championship team not to lose a single game in the calendar year — won 15 and drew seven of their 22 matches in England’s second division in 2025.
Burnley — who are currently in the Premier League’s relegation zone, but not without hope — recorded 2.36 points per Championship game during 2025. Meanwhile, Leeds — having topped the 2024 Championship calendar year table with 96 points — averaged 2.23 points per game in 2025 prior to their promotion.
Coventry’s 28 wins and eight draws in 46 games saw them finish 2025 with an average of exactly two points per game.
A year to forget for Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday
At the wrong end of the Championship’s calendar year table for 2025 are Cardiff City, who won just four of their last 23 league games before being relegated to League One at the end of the 2024/25 season.
Sheffield Wednesday would be bottom if the calendar year table factored in the 18 points deducted from them by the EFL for entering administration and breaches of payment obligations.
The Owls are currently bottom of the actual Championship table with minus-seven points after 23 games of their doomed 2025/26 campaign.
Even if you ignore their points deduction, Sheffield Wednesday have been the worst team in the Championship in 2025. They have conceded more goals (78) than any other club, while the only sides below them in the calendar year table are those who have played at least 21 games fewer.
