As the opening of the transfer window is looming the press are sharpening their pencils and throwing plenty of names around, who will be the biggest signing of the window and what club will be most active in the January sales?
Manchester City will be looking to secure the Premiership after the embarrassing exit from the Champions League and whats to say they wont add a few names to their overloaded squad to try and kill off Manchester United’s hopes of winning back the Premiership crown. Hulk and Sneijder could be possibilities along with offloading Mario Balotelli to AC Milan. The most outlandish rumour has to be Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the Etihad Stadium from PSG, which would seem most unlikely.
Manchester United were looking at Dortmunds Polish star striker Robert Lewandowski, Kevin Strootman and Leighton Baines and rumours are rife that Nani may be off loaded. If the papers are to be believed Fergie has given up on Wesley Sneijder after trailing him for some time and turned his attention to Mario Gotze from Borussia Dortmund and has put together a huge deal to lure him to Old Trafford.
Liverpool will be desperate to add a striker to help Suarez up front, Daniel Sturridge, Demba Ba, Darren Bent and Fernando Llorente could be targets but the Spanish striker will probably end up at a bigger club come July 1st. An unlikely move but one that could be a decent one is for free scoring VfL Wolfsburg star Bas Dost. Rumours are rife that Reina could sign for Arsenal but i struggle to see that move happening in the winter window.
Arsenal……..Wenger has been linked with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Demba Ba, Adel Taarabt and Pepe Reina but you wouldn’t put any money on him spending money on players.
Chelsea may look to strengthen up top to inspire or even replace Torres, rumours have been floating about that Atletico Madrid’s Falcao may be involved in a swap deal with Torres giving him the chance of a return to a familiar hunting ground. If Chelsea off load Sturridge they may look at signing Falcao outright at £46m.
Spurs will be looking to not lose players rather than recruit, Moutinho and Willian were linked heavily in the summer but a winter move would look unlikely for two players still heavily involved with their clubs in the Champions League. Spurs could be looking at Luke Shaw, Thomas Ince and Adam Lallana. They will look to hold on to Dawson, Parker and Defoe. Summer spending will be key for Spurs when Fernando Llorente a long time Spurs target will be available on a free and a more likely move for Moutinho and Willian will take place. Brad Friedel looks set to return to Ewood Park.
QPR will give Harry Redknapp a few quid no doubt and he will be keen to add to QPR’s squad but with heavy investment in the last two transfer windows Harry may not get bundles of cash. Joe Cole, Scott Parker and Michael Dawson have been heavily linked but how many will fancy a relegation battle at a troubled club.
As sure as eggs is eggs Harry will be leaning out the Range Rover window talking about a player he might or might not sign and Levy will be doing a deal at 23:58…but thats the excitement of the transfer window i suppose.
