Trialists Appear For Reserves

In a reserve match against Grays, behind closed doors, Tottenham feilded not only Stephen Appiah, but also ex-Arsenal youngsters Quinsy Owusu-Abeyie. Appiah has been on trial at White Hart Lane, but the latter, after Birmingham decided not to sign him on a perminant deal, is a new addition to the trial list.

Tottenham lined up

1. David Button
2. Chris Gunter
3. Benoit Assou Ekotto
4. Ricardo Rocha
5. Gilberto
6. Steven Appiah
7. Kyle Fraser Allen
8. Hossam Ghaly
9. Quincy Owusu-Abeyie
10. Gio Dos Santos
11. Adel Taraabt

The first half was played well by a first-team line-up from Grays, with the team restricting Spurs chances, and stiffling any creativity from the midfield. A few long range efforts were all the Spurs team could conjure up.

A re-shaped Spurs line-up started the second half a lot better, and four minutes into the 45, Adel Taarabt put Giovani through in on goal, who slotted the ball into the back of the net from eight yards. And it was those two players involved in the second goal, as well, with Taarabt and Giovani combining well before Hutton finished off the move.

Appiah looked good, if slightly match unfit, and looked comfortable on the ball and very accurate with his passing. Hossam Ghaly was perhaps the surprise package of the night, though, putting in a sublime amount of running, and winning every ball that came his way.

I expect Appiah to be signing anytime soon, even though many thought the deal was dead and he had returned to Ghana! Owusu, though, will probably have to impress hugely if he wants to earn himself a contract at the club. He was once of of the most prized assets of the famous Arsenal youth academy, but since leaving North London, his carrear has fizzled out slightly.
