Bristol City forward Lee Trundle has told the local media of his strict fitness regime, which has enabled him to get into shape in the run-up to his side’s Play Off Semi Final ties against Crystal Palace.
Trundle, signed by manager Gary Johnson for £1 million last summer, told the Bristol Evening Post that, “I’ve been in the gym every day and have done a lot of extra work on my fitness,” said Trundle. “This is definitely the leanest I’ve been at any stage of my career”
Trundle also noted that some of the jibes coming from both home and opposition supporters have not fazed him at all.
The derisory comments have came not only at the sight of a seemingly unfit Trundle earlier in the season, but also in light of somewhat mediocre form. Signed as a free-flowing 20-goal-a-season striker, Trundle has disappointed fans by only mustering a handful of goals.
However, his stunning performance against Preston this past weekend, has once again opened up peoples’ eyes to what the 30 year old Liverpudlian can do. Trundle scored one, set up another and hit the bar, in what was his best performance in the red shirt of the Robins.
Looking ahead to the play off ties with Neil Warnock’s Palace side, Trundle is confident that he is hitting top form at the right time. The former Swansea striker told the Evening Post: “I think we’re now beginning to see the real Lee Trundle.I think it takes a long time to really settle at a new club and I’m hitting my groove at just the right time. There are some big games coming up and there’s an opportunity for any one of us to become a hero. That ought to be enough to get any player excited.”
Bristol City fans will be hoping that Trundle and the rest of the side will renact their recent good performance, when they face Palace at Selhurst Park this coming Saturday.
