West Ham Leading The Race To Sign Serie A Attacker In January

Artem Dovbyk Roma West Ham

West Ham have emerged as front-runners to sign AS Roma forward Artem Dovbyk, who looks set to leave the Italian side.

Ukrainian international Dovbyk, 28, appears destined for the exit door at Roma in the coming weeks.

And according to fresh reports, it’s West Ham who are now leading the race for his signature.

Dovbyk has made 59 appearances for Roma, scoring 19 goals.

But with limited game time and having scored just twice this season, the time appears right for him to move on.

West Ham Lead Race For Artem Dovbyk

The need for a striker at West Ham is obvious.

Nuno Esprito Santo’s side have scored just 19 Premier League goals, with just three teams netting fewer.

A lack of attacking threat has been a huge reason for their league position.

The Irons are 18th, winless in the last six.

If they want any hope of survival, it’s clear that attacking reinforcements are necessary.

And in Dovbyk, they hope to have found their man.

Roma are keen to offload the Ukrainian, who has 40 senior international caps.

Artem Dovbyk West Ham

Roma’s Artem Dovbyk has scored 19 goals for the club.

Ideally keen on a permanent move, they hope to reinvest any fee into their own attacking signings.

Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee is reportedly joining Roma, with that move said to be a ‘done deal’.

As a result, the Itaslian outfit are happy to let Dovbyk depart.

West Ham aren’t the only English side monitoring his situation, though.

Everton are believed to be keen on the striker, as they look to upgrade on Beto and Thierno Barry.

A swap deal, sending Beto in the other direction, has also been suggested.

But West Ham are still considered to be in pole position to sign Dovbyk as things stand.

How Would Artem Dovbyk Fit In At West Ham?

Should they land Dovbyk, the 6’2 striker would bring a commanding physical presence – something West Ham have lacked.

With excellent hold-up play and elite aerial prowess, he could be the target-man that acts as a focal point for the side’s attack.

One of Dovbyk’s key strengths is his positioning and awareness in the box.

Although not the quickest, he has a knack for arriving at the right time and popping up where it matters.

His intelligence and work-rate are well-suited to the physical demands of the Premier League.

But his lack of pace means West Ham may struggle to launch counter-attacks effectively with him leading the line.

And his limited mobility in tight spaces means he can be struggle when pressed aggressively.

However, Dovbyk offers a clear upgrade on West Ham’s current attacking options.

And with Niclas Fullkrug joining AC Milan, he would provide a much-needed replacement.

If Joshua Zirkzee does join Roma from Man United as expected, then Dovbyk heading to West Ham is a deal that makes sense for all involved.
