Kenwright Out! Is a shout I hear often at Goodison park and the surrounding pubs. It may only be a minority of fans but I am hearing it to often for me to think that it is a minority. Even the die hard fans on facebook that I know post it on there walls. I am not saying they are wrong but maybe they should think before they speak.
I too an a Everton fan and do get disgruntled in the summer and January transfer windows when Everton are linked with various players that always ends up, with the linked player going to another club, which always seems to be smaller than Everton.I am always asking why they would choose Blackburn, Wigan, Wolves to name a few over Everton, no dis-respect to those clubs but I feel Everton are a bigger club. There is probably a bit of fan bias in my last sentence but that how I feel a lot of others think to.
Kenwright has done a lot of good for Everton in his tenure at the top of the club. We may be in debt but I would rather we be in debt than in the championship, which I am sure we would be if Peter Johnson were still in charge. Everyone seems to forget that it was Kenwright who drafted in David Moyes. Every Evertonian knows how much much Moyes has changed the fortunes of the club, from relegation candidates to a top 8 premier league side. There was the odd blip with finishes of 17th and 11th. In my opinion that was down to the injury to Lee Carsley. I know this may raise a few eyebrows but look at were Everton finished with him in the side when he was played as the holding midfielder 7th,4th,6th,5th.He had 9 other outfields around him that I know, but a lot of them were the in same side that finished poorly in those 2 seasons without him.
With those 2 disappointing seasons in mind I wonder whether a foreign owner or even a different British one to Kenwright would have had the patience to stick with Moyes.I have seen mangers sacked for less especially after finishing 4th then 11th the season after. It took a late run at the end of the season to finish in a respectful mid table position. I went to a lot of home games that season.I cast my mind back to the Merseyside derby at Goodison when Everton lost 3-1.At the time Liverpool were a very good side challenging for the premier league. Even I know it’s never an easy game against Liverpool but we showed no commitment or fight, even I for the first time had doubts about Moyes.Kenwright never. We had some shocking results that season with a 4-0 defeat again Bolton at home and two 4-0 defeats away at West Brom and a poor Aston Villa side.Which for Everton simply isn’t good enough.
We all know Kenwright doesn’t have deep pockets but he has broken Everton’s record transfer fee 4 times with James Beattie, Andy Johnson, Yakubu and Marouane Fellaini respectfully. I urge a lot of fans to look across the park when David Moores sold Liverpool, at the time it looked like good business for the reds but the cracks began to appear when results were on the wain and when they failed to make the champions league.I believe this is one of the reasons Kenwright has been very careful about selling the club. There have been plenty of potential suitors in to buy the club but due to Kenwright being an Evertonian he wants to make sure it is left in the right hands. If what happened to Liverpool had happened to Everton I have know doubt Kenwright would have tried to buy back the club he love
I know as fans we all get frustrated with Everton’s lack of spending power and it will again but I tight summer with a lot of are better players linked with europes top clubs. I for one hope we get Fellaini tied down to a longer contract him and Baines have been by far are best players this term.
Again I think it’s down to Kenwright that we have been able to keep some of are better players with the exception of Steven Pienaar. Cahill, Arteta, Jagielka and Tim Howard have all been signed on long term deals that is down to the chairman and Moyes as well.I Know fans pay some way to players wage but Kenwright and Moyes sell the club to players and why they should stay.
Kenwright wants to sell the club there is know question, but only to the right sort of people which is only good for Everton, Every Evertonian wants some sheik or oil tycoon to snap up Everton and build us a new stadium and the best players around, All I can say is keep the faith blues I know we have been keeping it for a while, I just have a feeling good times are ahead for Everton I don’t know why it’s just a feeling. I know we have had a mixed season this year, the same as last year it will be another summer of what ifs after another strong finish.
