2011/12 Kit Vote

December. The annual period for when it is acceptable to spend vast sums of money in one club’s shop to please those closest. Not the time to be having a kit vote as Nike have placed upon Palace fans once again. This years one comes even earlier than the last which had pleased fans due to the iconic, untemplated design of the away fabric. However, still finding it irregular to view the Eagles in their new threads for this current season for the time being, is it perhaps insinuating the Selhurst faithful to purchase more shirts before the products become stale, now ahead of Christmas in a cunning marketing plan from the sportswear giants?

Not that the new choices capture imagination at all. Nike has simply recycled aged designs and slapped a sponsor and a crest on them, expecting £45 for each! Have a look for yourself:

The first of the home shirts resembles a plastic bag in my opinion, it’s reusable. Resuscitated for 2011, the shirt marked A ran against the current home shirt in last seasons contest. Nike feel that the fans will like it enough to vote for it to be induced next season. However, the next choice is rather striking with the lightning bolt stripes flashing vertically down (ha, see what I did there). Different and modern, yet almost identical to this seasons home shirt, Palace fans have not been impressed. The trend continues. The yellow away choices are awfully simple, almost familiar. The Brazil team wore an identical tee during the World Cup, but perhaps a bit closer to home, it is one of the Sunday league kit choices Nike currently offer. The performances this season have obviously enforced the clothing supplier to compare us to the quality of a kickabout at the park. It’s hard to believe that the same material can be bought from a website minus the crest and sponsor at £25! How degrading! And as for the other one, Edwin Van Der Sar did wonder where his old goalkeeper shirt toddled off to. Is there an option to vote for some more kits, Nike, or better still keep a set for more than 12 months?

You can vote for your favourite by emailing the club with your kit choices at [email protected]. That is if you have one.
