Chief Executive Officer Peter Storrie admitted today that the club had rejected an offer for defender Sylvain Distin.
Distin is one of many players at the club who have been linked with a move away, after recent uncertainty surrounding Fratton Park.
However, after the nearing completion of Sulaiman Al Fahim’s proposed takeover, Storrie has now said the Frenchman is not for sell.
Speaking to The News, Storrie said: ‘We want Sylvain to remain at this football club and will be making sure he does.
‘We have only ever had one offer for him and I am not at liberty to say who from. But we told them we were not interested under any circumstances.
‘At this moment in time, as far as we are concerned, Sylvain is staying. It’s as simple as that,’ words from Storrie that many Pompey fans will be delighted to hear.
The 31-year-old had been heavily linked with a move to league rivals Aston Villa, with manager Martin O’Neil keen to bolster his defensive options for the upcoming campaign.
It’s thought that the former Manchester City player is likely to earn the captain’s armband next season, with previous captain Sol Campbell having already left the club.
