Newcastle See £40 Million Yoane Wissa Bid Rejected By Brentford

Newcastle Transfer News: Wissa Bid Rejected

Brentford have rejected an improved Newcastle United bid for Yoane Wissa, worth up to £40million, as the striker continues to push for a move away from west London.

Newcastle’s proposal was structured at £35m plus £5m in add-ons, but Brentford turned it down.

Despite the rejection, Wissa wants to make the switch to St James’ Park following a prolific 2024/25 campaign in which he netted 19 Premier League goals.

Wissa to Newcastle Transfer Update

Although Brentford sources insist they have not set a specific asking price for the 28-year-old, but the club are in no rush to sell.

Wissa has already returned from the Bees’ pre-season camp to hold face-to-face talks about his future, and his absence from both pre-season games and the opening-day defeat to Nottingham Forest only heightens the uncertainty surrounding his situation.

The Congolese international, who has another year left on his deal with Brentford plus an option for a further season, has recorded 49 goals and 13 assists in 149 appearances since joining from Lorient in 2021.

Newcastle Striker Search Continues

The Magpies have made Wissa a top target after missing out on several forwards this summer.

They lost out on their top target Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool and were also beaten to both Joao Pedro and Liam Delap by Chelsea, as well as Benjamin Sesko by Manchester United.

Newcastle’s pursuit of a new striker is also tied to uncertainty around Alexander Isak.

The Sweden international publicly stated this week that his “relationship with the club can’t continue,” throwing his future into further doubt and increasing the urgency for a replacement.

If they are to move on to another target, they may have to act quick, as they are being rivalled by Aston Villa for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.

Brentford Transfer News

Brentford are facing major change following the departures of head coach Thomas Frank to Tottenham Hotspur and captain Christian Norgaard to Arsenal.

Meanwhile, talisman Bryan Mbeumo – who alongside Wissa contributed 39 of Brentford’s 66 league goals last season – joined Manchester United.

With Mbeumo gone, losing Wissa would deal another blow to the Bees’ attack. It may take a substantially higher offer from Newcastle, or any other suitor, before Brentford consider parting with their last prolific forward.
