Liverpool have agreed a £35million deal with Crystal Palace for defender Marc Guehi, with the England international now undergoing a medical ahead of completing his move to Anfield.
Marc Guehi Liverpool Transfer Details
Personal terms are already in place on a five-year deal running until 2030, with only final medical checks standing in the way of the transfer being confirmed before the window closes.
Guehi, 25, had just one year left on his contract at Selhurst Park and Palace have opted to cash in rather than risk losing him for free next summer.
Liverpool’s interest dates back to earlier this summer, when initial discussions were held but no agreement was reached. Guehi had been seeking assurances over playing time, particularly with an eye on next year’s World Cup.
The move for Guehi comes as part of a wider reshaping of Arne Slot’s defensive options. With Jarell Quansah departing for Bayer Leverkusen, the squad was left with only Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate as senior centre-backs. Konate, notably, has just one year left on his contract.
The Reds see Guehi as a long-term option to refresh their back line while adding depth for the current campaign. His age and homegrown status also make him an attractive signing in terms of squad building.
More Frustration for Glasner
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has consistently stressed the importance of keeping Guehi, describing him as central to the club’s hopes of a successful season.
Speaking after Guehi’s goal in Palace’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday, Glasner made clear that selling without a replacement would undermine their project.
The Austrian coach has been the subject of headlines himself this summer, after being identified as Bayer Leverkusen’s top choice to replace Erik ten Hag after the Dutchman’s sacking.
His growing reputation has only heightened attention on how he handles a challenging transfer window at Selhurst Park.
Marc Guehi Stats
Since joining from Chelsea in 2021, Guehi has been a consistent performer for Palace, making 161 appearances and captaining the side to their historic FA Cup final win over Manchester City at Wembley — the club’s first major trophy.
At international level, Guehi has won 23 England caps, including playing a central role in Gareth Southgate’s squad that reached the Euro 2024 final.
Palace are already working on reinforcements, with a deal close for Toulouse teenager Jaydee Canvot as well as a loan move for Brighton’s Igor Julio.
However, Glasner and Palace fans will be acutely aware of the difficulty in replacing a defender of Guehi’s calibre so late in the window.
