Former Teammate Backs Kylian Mbappe to Make History at Real Madrid

Former Paris Saint-Germain defender Juan Bernat has heaped praise on Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe, backing him to ‘create a new era’ in the Spanish capital.

Bernat claimed Mbappe joined Los Blancos at the perfect age, as he now possesses the energy as well as the maturity to thrive at such a massive club.

Mbappe has been firing on all cylinders since moving from PSG in the summer of 2024. In his debut season at Real Madrid, he scored 44 goals and provided five assists in 59 games across competitions.

Unfortunately for the Frenchman, his heroics could not help the club to a major trophy in 2024/25.

This season, he is off to an even better start. In only 24 games across competitions, he has found the net 29 times and provided five assists.

In LaLiga, he has scored a league-topping 18 goals and provided five assists, contributing to over 53% of Los Blancos’ total.

Bernat Backs Mbappe to Start New Era at Real Madrid

Juan Bernat, who spent five years with Mbappe at the Parc des Princes, has discussed what made the Frenchman special.

Kylian Mbappe is a world-class player,” said Bernat (via Madrid Universal).

I’ve watched him train daily for five years in Paris, and I know how thirsty he is for victory. His mentality revolves around helping the team, without any personal ego.

Bernat then made a bold prediction about Mbappe’s Real Madrid career.

He’s joined Real Madrid at the perfect age, with the necessary energy to unleash his full potential and the required maturity. I believe he will create a new era in Real Madrid’s history.

Despite joining the club only one and a half years ago, Mbappe has already put his name in the Real Madrid history books. He scored a whopping 59 goals in 2025, matching the record Cristiano Ronaldo set in 2013.

Also, Mbappe outscored Erling Haaland and Harry Kane in 2025, emerging as the most prolific goalscorer in Europe. Real Madrid need their No. 10 to keep producing the goods to have a shot at winning a trophy or two this season.

Mbappe Could Miss Supercopa de Espana

Kylian Mbappe suffered an injury ahead of the LaLiga clash with Real Betis on Sunday. As a result, he missed the game, with Gonzalo Garcia replacing him in the starting XI. The Spanish striker made the most of the opportunity, scoring a hat-trick in a 5-1 victory.

Real Madrid now face Atletico Madrid in the Supercopa de Espana semi-final, and the stakes could not be higher. Xabi Alonso’s job could be on the line, and he will not have his talisman to save the day.

In his absence, Rodrygo, Garcia, and Vinicius Jr. could form the front three. Vinicius Jr. will be expected to lead the attack, and Jorge Valdano believes Vinicius must perform well to silence critics.
