Hello there and welcome back to my first article for many, many months. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to dedicate as much time as I thought I would have been able to when I first signed up. That has largely been due to college work, particularly coursework. However I now hope that can all change. I am determined to at least preview the remaining games and produce a match report of some variety.
It is unfortunate that the months I have failed to report on there have been so many things happening. Since my last article two managers have left the club, Pompey have drawn against one of the top sides in Europe, Pompey have also lost two important assets and most newsworthy, David Nugent has started scoring goals!
Pompey has a tough task ahead of them in order to seal Premier League survival. however we are in a much stronger position than we were in the ‘Great Escape’ scenario a couple of years back. Our fate is currently in our own hands, something that the teams below us would give anything for. We now have to hope that with Hart and Kidd in charge that we just have enough stability to keep us safe until next season. Only then can we move forward.
So what else is there to talk about Pompey? The fact we may be in financial meltdown? Let’s start with that point. It is essential that we find a buyer before the start of next season. In my opinion, finding a buyer is more important than finding a new manager. I seriously fear for the club if reports are to be believed. Although the club have often denied the allegations, how many have turned around to be true?
From what I’ve read recently, Gaydamark is receiving a huge amount of the blame for the ‘mess’ we are in. To be fair there is some truth in that. However because of the ‘mess’, Pompey have won the F.A Cup, played in Europe and have had a host of England international playing in their squad. Some fans could only previously dream of that happening. Gaydamark has made that happen, albeit causing a financial crisis at the same time.
The worst scenario facing Pompey is being relegated, players uncertain of their future, fifteen players leaving for free transfers and Pompey having to sell their best assets i.e. Crouch, Johnson, James etc.
We have to believe that we can stay up, it is vital. Pompey need to stay up in order to tempt buyers. If message board posters are to be believed then a deal is already lined up for someone to buy the club, a British/European businessman. The only catch is that we have to stay up.
If Pompey can do that, then maybe we’ll be okay…
