Anton heading for the lane?

West Ham central defender and younger brother of England international Rio, Anton Ferdinand has been linked to Tottenham Hotspur.

The 22 year old has recently rejected a contract offer from West Ham, putting a number of Premier League clubs on red alert. Tottenham face competion for Ferdinand from Portsmouth, Aston Villa and Newcastle.

Tottenham sporting director Damien Comolli has long been a fan of the defender and he could see the defender as ideal cover for the injury prone duo of Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate.

It is thought that West Ham would accept a bid of around £6mil for Ferdinand. Former Spurs boss Martin Jol had a £4mil bid for the defender rejected in 2006.

Despite the player being a West Ham regular for the last few years, many Tottenham fan’s have expressed their dissapointment that higher quality players aren’t being targeted. It is rumoured that Ramos has no real intrest in the player, and that, if it wasn’t for Comolli, Ferdinand would never have been targeted. It does seem worrying that our sporting director has the ability to bring players to the club on his own freewill. Shouldn’t Juande Ramos be the only person allowed to bring players in?

That said, Ferdinand should prove able defensive cover. I personally though, would only play him if King, Woodgate or Dawson were unavailable.
