As I sat in the stands of the Chelsea Man City game I saw Benitez come out of the tunnel as everyone knows he came out to a chorus of hatred that (even though he won’t admit it) will have hit him hard. To rub in the hatred even more there was a lovely one minute standing ovation for King Robbie. Against Fulham on Wednesday Benitez came out to complete silence and right on the sixteenth minute the Chelsea fans once again got to their feet.
In my opinion before the games I would have predicted to win both Chelsea, only because it was a few weeks ago that a lot of people were saying that Chelsea were the real deal and could win the league. I feel that any team considered champions should be expected beat all teams at home. To draw with Man City at home is no disaster but to create almost no clear-cut chances with three of the most exciting players in the world on your team is not good enough. However the game against Fulham was complete disgrace, Chelsea showed no spark, no determination to win the game. My Saturday league team shows more creativity than Chelsea did on Wednesday.
Many pundits have said that Chelsea performances have been poor because the fans have been so hostile at the Bridge. However Chelsea fans have an absolute right to boo and show hatred towards Benitez. He has said so many bad things about Chelsea including: ‘If Chelsea are naive and pure, then I’m Little Red Riding Hood’ and ‘For me there is only club in England, and that’s Liverpool’. He also said that Chelsea fans were ‘plastic’ and insinuated that we are fake with no passion. He also claimed that Luis Garcia’s ghost goal in the 2005 champions league semi final was over the line according to a lady called Shelia. Never once in his Liverpool history did he ever praise or give respect to our club. No other club would have hired someone that throughout history has continued to insult their club. Would Liverpool ever hire Sir Alex, or Rangers ever hire Neil Lennon?
Anyway on to tomorrows game – West Ham are going to be a massive challenge in my view. Big Sam has set out his team brilliantly this season. All of the important West Ham Players have been playing out of their skin. There is no chance that any West Ham fan would have predicted such a good start to the season after coming up via the play offs. Chelsea have to be aware that West Ham are a long ball team that will look for Andy Carroll all the time and after scoring against Tottenham last week could this be the start of a good spell for him? Also I think Noble needs to be man marked all the time because there are not many players who can react to a flick on as well as him.
However I do think that Chelsea will have too much quality for West Ham and maybe an away game is the best thing for Chelsea at the moment because they are not getting a good reception at the Bridge at the moment. But If Benitez is ever going to win the fans over it has to be now because the longer a winless run goes on the worse they will get towards him.
