Bury 0-2 Coventry City

After a torrid 2 weeks it was good to get 3 points!! With defeats to Crewe in the JPT first leg and a defeat to play off rivals Yeovil which has left our season in tatters. Also this week with the departure of Mark Robins who has joined Huddersfield Town to then more off field drama happening, been such a crap and depressing time to support the skyblues. Thankfully we forgot about our troubles today and gained the 3 points we went up North for. Lee Carsley who has been put into temporary charge of the skyblues until the new manager is appointed made 3 changes from last time out with injured Blair Adams going out for new loan singing Carl Dickinson whilst Franck Moussa and William Edjenguele dropped to the bench to be replaced by Stephen Elliot and Nathan Cameron.

It was the away side who were in dreamland as they scored with the first chance on goal within 3 minutes as Leon Clarke bullied his way past Bury’s right back and fire home past goalkeeper Trevor Carson, a nice over the top ball by on loan Carl Dickinson to start with. It was Coventry again on the attack as Stephen Elliot ran into the box shooting at Carson who made a comfortable save. It was all Coventry as Elliot again went even closer as his low shot rattled off the post which went out to James Bailey and his curling shot was cleared off the line by a defender. City sat back a bit after that and Bury came at them with their first chance of the game as David Worrall produced a save from Joe Murphy, one that he had to watch carefully. Carl Baker then had a crack at goal, a free kick just outside the box from a handball from Joe Skarz who was booked for it, along with Gary McSheffrey later on in the half, them the only bookings of the game. Back to the free kick,  Baker shot was saved by Carson who spilt it which nearly let in Elliot for the follow up, would have been a bit of a an error! Little man Elliot again was on hand to run at the Bury defence but again he fired a shot straight at Carson. From a quick free kick which the Bury defenced didn’t wake up to McSheffrey cross come shot was tipped over the bar by Carson, he was having a decent game for the home side. Andy Bishop had the best chance of the half for the home side as some good play down the right hand side sent the ball in Bishop but thankfully he seemed to hesitate and his shot was blocked out for a corner. That was it for the first half.

City started well in the second half with James Bailey going close with a low powerful shot which that man again Carson saved well. It was McSheffrey’s turn again as a cross from the right which he controlled well before firing an unstoppable shot at goal, but Carson again made a point blank save somehow! Leon Clarke then tried his luck one on one at a tight angle from a long ball which Carson made himself big and saved well. Bury had their best chance of the game to date as a Tom Soares cross was headed at goal by Bishop which clipped the top of the bar. That woke the away side up as City went 2-0 up through captain Carl Baker, a cross was cleared to the Liverpudian who took one touch before firing low into the bottom left hand corner this time beating Carson sending 1241 away fans into sheer delight. A great effort by the travelling sky blue army as the overall attendance was 3745, but I guess being so close to the Manchester teams you aren’t going to get many fans supporting their local team, shame. Bury sent on Craig Jones, Sebastien Carole and Craig Fagan for Carl Regan, Tom Soares and Nicky Ajose respectively whilst the away side gave Franck Moussa, John Fleck and Connor Thomas the chance to play in place of Elliot, McSheffrey and Steven Jennings.  Bury thought they had a consolation goal though as Murphy was left in no man’s land as he committed himself to collect the ball on for substitute Ajose to dink it past him but Richard Wood slid in to clear off the line. That was it really I wasn’t watching the match last few minutes as the legends dressed as Crayons started doing the Gangnam Style in front of us and started football chants off! Funniest thing off the match though has to be the Joe Murphy Gangnam style chant, absolute quality! “Ayyyyy Joe Murphy oooo oooo Joe Murphy Style!”

Overall a top away day, wasn’t a very entertaining game but 3 points is 3 points and hopefully we can still be up there come end of season but me being negative don’t see it!On to Crewe in the JPT Wednesday, WERE GOING TO CREWE AND WIN 4-0! I can dream ay! PUSB
