Its been a great window for Tottenham! hasn’t it? you can still hear some of the disgruntled fans screaming, sign a striker!!! But to the masses this has been a great window, deadwood has been sold and for a profit.
Total spending: £7,500,000
Total income: £12,000,000
(Figures above is the amount made from Livermore and Falque).
Fans have been extremely happy with the signing of players needed in key positions. But most of all the competition for places especially in the defence which was one of our weakest positions is a great sight to see.
Levy said 2nd April 2013
‘Our focus is to continue to invest in and develop the squad,’ he said.
‘We shall not look to a summer of major upheaval, but rather to strengthen in key positions, to play the style of football for which we are famous and to deliver a new stadium. Whilst this season’s performances and results have not lived up to expectation, we believe our squad has potential,’
(Daniel Levy end of season statement Via Tottenham Hotpspur)
He has implemented his style on Tottenham and all the players have responded well. Players that had huge potential but were left on the fringes by other managers (Sherwood/AVB), have responded in a way that is so encouraging for the coming season. Lamela you can see he is playing with the confidence, he is rotating from the left then into the 10 position. scoring and playing with the flair we knew he had from Roma. The system also suits players like Holtby, who I must say has been excellent all pre-season. Capoue has shown why Baldini signed him and in my opinion, Capoue is the number one defensive midfielder.
“For me, it is about exciting football, pressing high, playing with flair – this is our philosophy that we want to get down,” said Pochettino.
The english media and some Tottenham fans acted like Baldini didn’t know what he was doing signing Lamela and the six others, But if you look closely at his record you will see he is a genius and their is a clear strategy in place, buy young players who have clear potential with low values.
Example of Baldini work:
Real Madrid: Gonzalo Higuain (18), Marcelo (18)
Roma:Marquinhos (18), Mattias Destro (21) Alessandro Florenzi (20)
All players signed become key members of the squad, Marquinhos was so highly rated that PSG spent 31.4 million on him when has bought for 1.4 million!
The stadium is know being built and the naming rights are for sale, giving the club more funds but also moving us up to the next level, to think that Newcastle, Sunderland and Aston Villa have bigger grounds then us shows you the great work levy has done.
“The club is pleased to announce that the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) has confirmed the Compulsory Purchase Order made by Haringey Council in respect of the remaining land required for the Northumberland Development Project.
“This is a very significant step in the CPO process.
“The club has used the intervening period productively and has refined detailed design of the stadium in order to ensure it is future-proofed and optimised.
“We shall provide our supporters with a further update and timeline on the Northumberland Development Project as soon as we are able to do so.”
Pickles said: “This scheme is supported by the locally determined development plan for the area and has received strong local support.”
We have been linked with Viktor Fischer and Memphis Depay, two young players but both with great futures and who actually both fit into Pochettino system. Signing’s like that show the club from top to bottom are working together with the same objective at hand and can see that there is a clear weakness at left midfield unless Eriksen plays.
Europa League: Pochettino said he disliked the Europa league last season with southampton.
He said: “It hasn’t changed. In my opinion the Europa League is not an attractive competition
“That is my personal opinion, I’m not talking about anyone else, it’s my personal opinion and as Mauricio Pochettino there is no interest in the Europa League.
“The ambition of course is to one day play the Champions League and that I would be interested in.
“That is my opinion, not the club’s opinion.
“I think it is a competition that kills you in the sense that there are a lot of mid-table teams that put a lot of effort into the Europa League and then are not able to do anything in the league, they are not able to compensate for that bad run of form in the league so it brings them down.”
But this season Pochettino said:
“It’s true that the next Europa League gives us the possibility, if we win it, to be in the Champions League. It’s different now, it’s a different point of view.”
I would agree the Europa league has more attractiveness due to the money which is at stake for the club by winning the cup. But also with the league so competitive and the real challenge in the Europa league coming when the Champions league clubs drop out we can give this competition the concentration it deserves, especially with the depth of squad we have this season.
My opinion on transfers:
We don’t need to sign any more players, but I would like to see a different left midfielder brought into the club. I feel Townsend is quality but lacks shooting and crossing ability, if the club was to sign a player like Viktor Fischer or Depay that is quality that you can’t say no to. Schneiderlin I feel is a signing we don’t need at all he would set Bentaleb back who I rate so highly, but also Dembele is a box to box midfielder and Paulinho. Unless either is sold I would stick to either of them.
Players to be sold?
Where will we finish?
5th in the premier league, something tells me we will win a cup this season or at least get to a final.
