Cole Palmer dropped his regular chilled out demeanor after last night’s 3-1 Bayern Munich defeat of Chelsea in the Champions League.
The Blues attacker was part of the starting XI for his side as they were beaten in Germany by a Harry Kane-inspired Bayern outfit.
A Trevoh Chalobah own goal had given the hosts their lead at the Allianz Arena before Kane struck to make it 2-0 just seven short minutes later.
Premier League Player of the Year wannabe Palmer would half the deficit with a strike of his own but Kane finished the game off as a contest in the second-half to hand the Bundesliga giants their first three points of the campaign and resign Chelsea to defeat.
The English Premier League club were well beaten, it must be said, and that is what frustrated Palmer the most as he firmly believed at half-time that he and his teammates could push on for the result.
Cole Palmer cut frustrated Chelsea figure after Bayern Munich clash
But when it did not come and the visitors were left irked at full-time, Palmer’s usually composed and chilled out vibe disappeared and he cut a frustrated figure when he was interviewed at the end of the action by TNT Sports who had broadcast the clash.
“Yeah [frustrating],” Palmer admitted when asked how he found the 90 minutes. “We deserved more. We started well, had early chances but when you make mistakes at the highest level it’s difficult.
“There was a lack of concentration, not managing the moments correct.
“We showed we can play against one of the best teams in the competition. We deserved more to be honest. The manager said to us before we can go toe-to-toe.
“It’s a good learning curve and to be back in the competition is nice. I don’t even know [what happened in the second half]. We’re not coming here to be a learning curve. We showed we want to compete.”
Palmer’s Chelsea stats this season so far
Palmer’s season at Stamford Bridge has started relatively slowly by his own incredible standards even if he has netted twice in just three matches.
The England international was not selected to start vs Crystal Palace on the opening day of the new season by head coach Enzo Maresca but he has been picked since.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have two wins and the same number of draws so far from four outings in the division and are unbeaten to kick off their year.
It comes after Maresca spent the guts of £300million in the summer window as the Italian hoped to compete on all fronts including in Europe.
