Daniel Farke Provides Leeds Injury Update Ahead Of Wednesday’s Trip To Newcastle

Leeds United injury news

Leeds boss Daniel Farke has provided a positive injury update ahead of Wednesday night’s trip to face Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.

With more than half of the Premier League season complete, newly-promoted Leeds have made a good start to the campaign.

They sit 16th in the table, with 22 points from 20 games.

Eight points clear of the relegation zone, they secured an important point against Manchester United at Elland Road on Sunday.

That 1-1 draw saw Man United boss Ruben Amorim sacked, but moved Leeds further from trouble.

Next up, Leeds travel up to Tyneside to take on Newcastle in midweek, with manager Daniel Farke offering an update on his squad’s fitness and availability.

Daniel Farke Offers Positive Leeds Injury Update

Speaking on Monday afternoon, Farke told the club’s website that there were no fresh injuries from the weekend.

He said: “No new injury concerns, also important news after such an important game,” the boss said.

“With Sean [Longstaff], if I’m honest, initially my plan was to involve him the first time for the FA Cup because he was out for more than six weeks.

“Perhaps also a chance to be involved in the squad again and definitely not for 90 minutes also definitely not in the starting line-up, but perhaps for a few minutes.”

Leeds aren’t the only side waiting on late fitness tests for Wednesday’s game, though.

The latest Newcastle injury news coming out of St. James’ Park suggests they could be without both Jacob Murphy and Anthony Elanga, with both major doubts ahead of this week’s games.

Leeds Still Waiting On Several Stars To Return

But while there were no new concerns, Farke and Leeds face a nervous wait on several players’ availability.

Discussing Jayden Bogle, Farke admitted the right-back may not be ready in time for Newcastle.

“We just hope he recovers pretty quick from his calf injury,” Farke added.

“So what I can confirm is that Joe Rodon and Jayden Bogle were also today not in team training.

“Both are making good progress. If the Newcastle game comes too soon or there’s a possibility to involve them somehow, we will see.

“But at the moment, it’s perhaps more realistic that they are not ready for this game, but definitely then on the other side of the FA Cup fixture and we still have a bit of hope that perhaps one of them is able to support us also in Newcastle.”

On long-term absentee Daniel James, Farke added: “At the moment he’s around two weeks away from team training and this is the first step.

“So we expect him back in two weeks, at least around this date, back in team training and then we will see how quick he is available for the games.”
