Davies heads Blues into play-off positions.

Curtis Davies has been heading in the right direction (in both senses of the phrase) during recent weeks. The ever improving centre half notched up another two headed goals either side of half-time as his contribution to a straightforward 3v0 victory against struggling Watford at St. Andrews on Saturday.

Davies rising.

In a game where the Blues were slow out of the blocks, Birmingham eventually finished Watford off without breaking too much sweat.  Davies’ first goal came from a Keith Fahey cross, whilst his second was courtesy of a corner. Chris Burke got involved in the action when he smashed in a rebound. With 54% of possession, the Blues controlled a rather mild game, whilst restricting Watford to just one accurate effort on goal. Despite calls from fans for Colin Doyle to be given another chance in goal, Chris Hughton stuck with Boaz Myhill between the sticks. This decision was vindicated, however, with yet another clean sheet kept, meaning that Birmingham’s goal difference is now +16 (third best). A game that won’t live too long into the memory, but one which Chris Hughton would have been relieved not to drop at points at, considering how tight it is at the top half of the Championship.

A trip to Elland Road to face Leeds on Tuesday is Birmingham’s next feature. With Leeds hot on Birmingham’s tail, this match promises to be a real test for the Blues, and one, which if they lose, could hamper the momentum that Hughton’s team have been carrying of late.
