Liverpool Fan Who Goaded Diego Simeone Into Red Card Reveals What Was Said – And What He’s Accused Of

The Liverpool fan who goaded Diego Simeone into a confrontation last night has revealed what he said to the Atletico Madrid boss.

Simeone was sent off for Atleti in their dramatic late fall to the Reds at Anfield.

Liverpool had led 2-0 in the first six minutes thanks to goals from Andy Robertson – fortuitously – and then Mo Salah who barreled his way through a mosh pit of defenders to rattle home the second.

Marcos Llorente – who scored a brace the last time these two sides met – grabbed another double to stun the hosts and that was when the fan made his presence known for the first time as he launched insults and middle fingers towards the Argentinian manager and his players.

When the Reds would eventually seal the three points thanks to Virgil van Dijk’s 92nd minute header at the Kop End, Simeone was furious and he admitted his emotions got the better of him.

Liverpool fan who goaded Simeone accused of racism

He turned around to confront the punter and he was shown a straight red by the ref.

That triggered a reaction on social media with the fan laughing at the manager’s expense. And he took to X to troll the boss further as he chuckled: “Do I get the assist?”

But now the fan – Jonny Poulter according to socials – has shared a clip of his explanations over last night’s incident and revealed exactly what was said between him and Simeone which warranted the reaction.

“When he went and done his press conference after the game, the Spanish press asked what was said,” Poulter began. “Whether it was racist or about the Falklands War and all this rubbish.

What fan said to trigger Simeone rage

“There was nothing racist said by me or anyone else, never a mention of the Falklands War, but the fact that he was asked it and didn’t answer the question, got up and walked out, has left it open to speculation around the world.

“I’ve had messages on every platform, don’t know how many, I never said anything other than, ‘Wayyy, f*** off, we’ve won’. As you do.

“That’s what he did to us when they scored the equaliser, his assistant was called a s***house. His assistant manager came over and spat at me.

Simeone will have the benefit of the TV cameras from the evening of action showing exactly what happened.

As we told you earlier this evening, a UEFA spokesperson confirmed that they are awaiting the official match delegate and referee reports before deciding whether to open formal proceedings. Any disciplinary action could fall on Atletico Madrid if wrongdoing is proven.

As the host club, Liverpool will also be responsible for providing full CCTV coverage of the incident at their ground, which is could play a key role in determining exactly what went down.
