Upon being asked about whether Cannavaro’s injury would hamper Italy’s bid to challenge for the Euros. Donadoni affirmed fans that this will not be the case and he feels that any replacement for Cannavaro would do just fine.
“I have faith in the ability of whoever takes his place,†Donadoni told La Gazzetta Dello Sport.
“Whoever it is who comes in knows that they have a great responsibility, but that should be an encouragement and not a burden.
“There are players who can step into the breech – we have an identity and I don’t intend to compromise that.
“For the last two years, Marco Materazzi and Andrea Barzagli have done well.
“I want to continue moving forward and changing the system would be a cardinal sin. Luckily I gave players who can play the role and I think that would be a favourable solution.”Â
