Life as a Peterborough United supporter is certainly not boring. Last season London Road was named the most entertaining ground in the England after witnessing an incredible 111 goals in the league and despite making a step up in the divisions this season entertainment value at The Posh has certainly not faded.
Posh were three games without a victory however after only just losing to Championship leaders Southampton 2-1 in the week despite having just ten men confidence at London Road was definitely high.
Media coverage on this game was buzzing after Posh had revealed they would be naming 15-year-old Jaanai Gordon-Hutton on the bench after only having 15 fit players for the game.
Derby also had a 15-year-old starlet. Young Mason Bennett who had already made two starts for the team this season was also on the bench.
Despite Posh making the best start the game it was no surprise it was Derby who took the lead courtesy of a Theo Robinson goal on 29 minutes.
Posh are yet to keep a clean sheet all season however no one quite expected the team to go into free-fall the way they did after Robinson again scored on 33 minutes and only seconds later had a chance of completing his hat-trick.
Most teams would have given up by that point but this is Peterborough we’re talking about, nothing is ever as simple as it seems.
Posh managed to reduce their arrears on 38 minutes as Paul Taylor finished superbly from the edge of the area.
Derby had a strange game plan. Goalkeeper Frankie Fielding was booked for time wasting in the first half! Needless to say half-time couldn’t come quick enough for them.
Whatever Darren Ferguson said in that dressing room certainly worked. Just six minutes after the break Posh were back on level terms when the persistence of Tommy Rowe paid off after he managed to somehow squeeze the ball over the line.
From that point the game turned more into a basketball match. One team would attack, they would lose possession and the other team would attack. Neither team were happy with a point and both were throwing everything into winning.
The fourth official’s board went up – four minutes of stoppage time was indicated. Posh were on top and three minutes into injury time the incredible turnaround was complete. Grant McCann fired home an unstoppable shot from the edge of the area and London Road erupted.
Before the start of the season many pundits had already written Posh off however they have only been out the top half of the table once this season. It seems the underdogs are going to fight for their Championship lives.
