Enzo Maresca Chelsea ‘Bomb Squad’ Response Not What Raheem Sterling Will Want to Hear

Enzo Maresca has responded to Raheem Sterling’s “bomb squad” social media post this week – but the winger will not want to hear it.

The Chelsea wide player has been forced to train alone as part of the so-called ‘bomb squad’ at Stamford Bridge which also includes Axel Disasi who may both have played their final games for the team.

Sterling wanted a move away from the club in the summer transfer window with Fulham hoping to take him on loan before that deal was scuppered.

Bayern Munich also considered a late swoop for the England international before they eventually landed Nicolas Jackson following what was a drawn out process due to an injury to Liam Delap.

Sterling training on his own at 8pm has been a bit of a contentious issue with the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA ) attempting to make certain that both players have the correct facilities and platform to train as they wait on the January transfer window opening.

Enzo Maresca says Raheem Sterling does not have ‘hard life’ at Chelsea

Maresca was asked about the pair and grilled on his decision to leave them to train alone. But rather than back down on the situation, the Italian insisted neither have it tough as a footballer.

Instead he pointed to his 75-year-old father who has lived a challenging life by comparison.

“My father is 75 years old and for 50 years he has been a fisherman, working from two o’clock in the morning until 10 o’clock in the morning,” he said.

“This is a hard life. Not for players.”

Sterling is on a whopping £300,000 per WEEK at Chelsea and that has proved difficult to shift when interested clubs came to the table to discuss signing the 30-year-old.

Sterling transfer options in January window

The attacking playmaker played on loan at Arsenal last season before he was shunted back to the Blues and then moved to the reserves.

The former Liverpool and Manchester City star has actually not played a minute of football under Maresca since he took over in 2024 and he has been told, seemingly, that he never will.

We told you earlier today how Celtic were reportedly keen on Sterling before the January window after manager Brendan Rodgers failed to secure the number of summer signings he was looking for.

Rodgers worked with the player back during the pair’s time at Anfield and the player managed 96 appearances under his former gaffer.

It is likely Sterling’s astronomical wage packet would put paid to any chance of him joining the Scottish Premiership giants but other clubs in England’s Premier League could hand him an exit route.
