Raheem Sterling Linked With Shock Celtic Transfer – Here’s Why It Won’t Happen

Raheem Sterling has been linked with what would be a stunning move to Celtic this coming January – with the attacker struggling for minutes at Chelsea.

The creative playmaker, 30, has barely kicked a ball for Blues boss Enzo Maresca and it appears his time at Stamford Bridge may be coming to an end.

Sterling has trained alone in 8pm sessions as part of the club’s so-called “bomb squad” and that has led to concerns that he may have played his final game for the club.

Fulham were linked with Sterling back when the summer transfer window was open but a deal could not be done at that time with the player being forced to stick it out.

Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich also considered a Sterling loan during the saga involving Nicolas Jackson before the Bundesliga giants would eventually land their prime target after all.

Celtic reportedly interested in Raheem Sterling loan from Chelsea

That, again, left Sterling in no man’s land but now a report from Transfers.com has claimed that Brendan Rodgers is eyeing up a shock reunion with the player he brought to the fore at Liverpool.

Sterling made as many as 95 appearances for the Reds under Rodgers before he would be sold to Manchester City for megabucks, £50million, which was a hefty sum at the time.

Rodgers is believed to be interested in taking the England international, who has 87 caps for the A team, to Glasgow to work with the younger wide players and compete seriously for a starting spot on a weekly basis.

Of course, the January rumours were always set to begin early and it is easy to link an out of favour player with a former boss.

But we believe there is one major stumbling block towards any sort of deal for Sterling to move to the Scottish Premiership giants, on a loan deal or a permanent transfer.

Celts have a set wage structure that the club have refused to deviate from in the last number of seasons.

Why Sterling to Celtic is a no-go

The Hoops have a staggering cash reserve in the bank which could be touching around £100m by the time their next financial records are published for all to see.

However Sterling is understood to be on an eye-watering £300k per WEEK which would absolutely scupper any sort of move for the player, regardless of how valuable he would be to the club.

It is claimed in the report that Celtic would be willing to cover around one sixth of Sterling’s whopping wages but it is unlikely to be a done deal any time soon.

It’s possible if Sterling leaves Chelsea on a free transfer that something could possibly be done and the structure could be changed and switched around with no transfer fee to be paid.

However, Sterling is dealt in at Stamford Bridge until 2027.
