Faye Cleared To Face Villa

Stoke’s new centre back, the sturdy Abdoulaye Faye has been given the work permit neccesary for him to feature tomorrow, in Stoke’s first home game in the top flight for 23 years.

After a long wait, the deal to sign Faye from Newcastle for £2.25 million, which was completed, subject to a work permit being granted, on Friday has now been finalised. Abdoulaye who played alonside City’s Salif Diao for his native Senegal inn a 0-0 draw with Libya in midweek looks set to slot in at the heart of the Stoke defence alongside either Ryan Shawcross or Leon Cort.

The news comes as a great relief, as after the poor defensive display at Bolton on Saturday, it became clear that new and better players were needed at the back and Abdoulaye will provide this. Southampton’s Andrew Davies, who can play centre back or full back has also been signed, but will not play tomorrow due to injury.
