Fletcher out for 6 weeks

Fletcher

It has been confirmed that Man Utd midfielder Darren Fletcher has injured his knee ligament during international duty for Scotland and will be out for six weeks. Fletcher was injured during Scotland’s Wednesday friendly against Croatia, whose score was 1-1. An injury to any player at this stage of the season is not the desired happening to Sir Alex’s squad. Ferguson was very angry to learn of this injury, and criticised useless international friendlies at this critical stage of the season. Fergie sees these friendlies as a waste of time, and unnecessary when considering the levels of fatigue at this stage of the season. Injuries are thus inevitable, according to Ferguson.

“We’ve had a bad blow with Darren and it emphasises the futility of playing these friendly games,” said Ferguson. He should have played for 45 or 60 minutes at most, but he played the full game so he’s out for six weeks.” – Sir Alex Ferguson

Fletcher is now likely to miss both legs of the quarter-final of Champions League against Roma, and probably also both semi-final matches against Schalke/Barcelona. This is a huge blow for the Red Devils but with the availability of Anderson, Hargreaves, Scholes, Giggs, Park, Carrick, Nani and Ronaldo in the midfield department, it shouldn’t be a problem to cover for his absence, as long as no more injuries hit the team.
