Goings on at the Lane

Sorry for my abscence, but I will attempt to summarise what has happened since I was gone. After the purchase of Gomes, Juande Ramos has made yet another summer aquisition in the shape of goalkeeper, Cesar Sanchez, who will play understudy to Gomes. The 36-year-old joins for an undisclosed fee from relegated Zaragoza.

In their last friendly before the pressure of a top four finish mounts; Ramos’ men rattled five past AS Roma whilst also keeping a clean sheet. David Bentley and Darren Bent got two each, whilst Aaron Lennon staked his claim for a starting position with a goal. Giovani Dos Santos told Tottenhamhotspur.com of his excitement ahead of the new season. He said: “Sunday was unbelievable. The atmosphere in the stadium was incredible. The fans are very important to us and it was a great feeling to play in front of them.

“It’s good for me to have a rapport with my fans and I intend to give it my all for them in every game I play.

“Roma were defensive in the first half and the game was quite tight, but the second half was great for the forwards because it opened up.

“The team is very strong now and we need to keep our form up against Middlesbrough next weekend and make the best possible start to the season.”

Gareth Bale also commited himself to the club until 2012, and will have to fight Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Gilberto for the left-back spot in the team.
