It is believed that Marco Van Basten will rest some of his top players ahead of this evening’s game with Romania. With the Oranje already into the last eight, it would give Van Basten the chance to have a look at some of the fringe players in the squad.
Uefa director of communications William Gaillard sees nothing wrong with the Dutch fielding a weakened side adding “Players might be on yellow cards or want to avoid injuries and it gives other players a chance to prove themselves. There is nothing against the rules in doing that. They have 23 players and it is a way to rotate. It is a fact of life.”
A Romanian victory would see them finish second in the group behind Holland.
