Leeds United are stepping up their interest in signing Newcastle United midfielder Joe Willock during this month’s transfer window.
Newly-promoted Leeds are making a good fist of ensuring Premier League survival so far.
The Lilywhites are 16th in the table, eight points clear of the bottom three and with just one defeat in their last six.
That loss came in midweek, as they were beaten 4-3 at Newcastle United in an all-time classic.
Harvey Barnes scored in the 12th minute of added time to record the latest winner in Premier League history and break Leeds hearts.
While they look to be clear of the Premier League relegation battle, it’s clear Daniel Farke’s side still need reinforcements.
Goalkeeping has been an issue all season, and questions were asked once more after Lucas Perri let four in at St. James’ Park.
Leeds are keen on James Trafford of Manchester City as a solution in that department.
But it’s one of last night’s opponent’s that’s caught their eye in midfield.
Leeds United Keen On Newcastle’s Joe Willock
Joe Willock was an unused substitute for Newcastle against Leeds on Wednesday.
But the 26-year-old has been identified as a major target for Daniel Farke.
Willock would suit the style of play at Elland Road, and a lack of game time at Newcastle means he is reportedly open top an exit.
The former Arsenal academy graduate has played 11 times in the Premier League this season.
Most of these appearances have been from the bench, though, with Willock playing just 235 minutes in total.
A player with a high work-rate and solid technical ability, he has attracted attention from several clubs.
But it’s Leeds who hold the strongest interest as it stands. And given their steady march away from relegation trouble, the prospect of a move to the Yorkshire club is rapidly gaining appeal.
Harry Wilson Another Player On Leeds United’s January Radar
Willock and Trafford aren’t the only Premier League stars Leeds are considering this month, however.
Fulham’s Harry Wilson is another player Daniel Farke would like to bring in.
The 28-year-old Welsh international was set to join Leeds on deadline day.
But with that deal falling through, Wilson’s performances this season have caught they eye of many clubs.
The winger has scored seven league goals this season, including in Fulham’s last two games against Liverpool and Chelsea.

With just six months left on his current contract, Fulham are in a weak position to keep their man – if he wants to leave.
The West London club may be forced to cash in this month if a suitable offer comes in.
But given his form and the number of clubs monitoring him, Leeds will be hard-pressed to secure his services.
Leeds will have a chance to scout Wilson in person next week, when they face Fulham in the Premier League a week Saturday.
Before that, they travel to Championship side Derby County in the FA Cup third round this Sunday.
