Boniek a former star who inspired Poland to a 3rd place finish in 1982 World Cup had this to say: “Poland need to start dreaming again and we have to do that this summer – we can dream of having success again,” said the 52-year-old, who scored 24 times in 80 internationals and was this year awarded a UEFA Gold Pin. “I think Poland can do something in Austria and Switzerland just as Greece did something big at UEFA EURO 2008â„¢. I know that other teams like Turkey and Austria will be hoping to do it as well, but if Greece can do it, why can’t Poland?”
This was said before the Germany match but it still applies if they start dreaming start beliving they can make it through the group stage.
He added this as his closing comment: “I would like Poland to qualify from the group and I have my fingers crossed that they can do it,” said the former Juventus and AS Roma striker. “Italy are favourites to win the tournament and, in theory, they have a great squad. But games and tournaments are won on the pitch and not on paper, so we will see after the first match just how strong Italy really are.”
