Milan vs. Tottenham preview

The Champions League returns this week as AC Milan take on Tottenham Hotspur. Milan are fresh from a four goal trashing of Parma. While Spurs got a tight two-one win at the stadium of light, however they will be without the services of the almighty Gareth Bale. Who is out with a back problem. The Italian press have been raving about the speedy winger ever since his dazzling performance against city rivals Inter

Top of the table Milan rested Pato and Robinho at the weekend given the importance of clash. 4-3-3 is the likely formation, Abbiati in goal with Antonni and Oddo at left and right back respectively. Nesta is back from injury and will partner Brazilian Thiago Silva in the centre of defence. Crutially playmaker Andrea Pirlo and ex-spurs player Keven-Prince Boateng will be missed in midfield. Van Bommel has come out and said he would love to play for Spurs, he’s illegible along with Cassano. Ibrahimovic is the man up front and everything goes through him. Pato and Robinho will finish off the moves. Expect one touch football when they are in full flight.

Tottenham will miss Bale, Modric and potentially Van der Vaart. 4-4-1-1 seems to be the preferred line up for Harry Redknapp. Lennon providers pace on the flanks. If Van der Vaart plays it could be a big man small man combination up front with Crouch as a lone striker. Milan’s defence could struggle with that partnership, while if Defore plays it could be handled. With so many injured defenders I can’t even predict who will start who will start in defence, with so many injured.

Expect an open expansive game of football. Spurs will struggle if all their creativity suddenly disappears. Milan have won seven
Champions Leagues and that will be the difference between the sides, but in the last few years they haven’t had the best record against English opposition.  Overall Spurs need at least a draw, I just feel Inzaghi will nick it. Kick-off at seven forty-five.
