Stoke will host Championship Reading in the third round of the Carling Cup after the draw was made this lunchtime. The tie with the Berkshire club, from which Stoke have bought Dave Kitson and Ibrihima Sonko this summer, for a total fee of £7.5 million will be played either on Tuesday the 23rd or Wednesday the 24th of September.
The two clubs have not met since the 2005/2006 season, when Reading stormed to the Championship title, beating Stoke 3-1 at the Madjeski Stadium and 1-0 at the Britannia.
