San Siro return for Goldenballs.

The January transfer market is seen as a period of investment. Players leave in search of first team football, others want a new challenge, but for one player there is only one subject on his mind and that is the World Cup 2010. David Beckham has rejoined one of Europe’s Elite football teams in a bid for a place at the forthcoming tournament.

The England International is recognised as a footballing icon, especially amongst the England fans. The 34 year old currently plys his trade with American team Los Angeles Galaxy and with the Major League Soccer season finished for the season, doubts were cast over whether Beckham could maintain his fitness with the World Cup fast approaching.  England coach Fabio Capello made it quite clear his attentions for the former England captain, “If David Beckham is fit and playing, he will be in my England World Cup squad” said the Italian.

Beckham has tasted success with three different teams; Manchester United, Real Madrid and LA Galaxy. Beckham was part of the Manchester United team that won the treble in 1999 and dominated the league for many years. From his success at United, Beckham went on to join La Liga giants, Real Madrid where he won the Spanish title with Fabio Capello at the helm. The former Man United number 7 then went on to swap continents and recently won the Western Conference.

With the prestigious World Cup looming, and the Major League Soccer season finishing, Beckham had to make sure he played enough football to secure a spot on the England plane. This is where he chose AC Milan for the second time after having a successful spell at the Italian giants this time last year.
The 34 year old’s first spell at the San Siro worked wonders for both England and AC Milan fans, and most importantly Fabio Capello as the former Man United midfielder impressed with goals and assists for his colleagues. His performances were thrived upon by then manager Carlo Ancelotti and Beckham extended his loan to an extra four months.
Beckham was evidently happy at the Italian club that he seeked for a permanent transfer. The negotiation took place but crumbled as Milan wouldn’t match Galaxy’s valuation. Beckham rejoined Galaxy and completed his return with victory in the Western Conference final.
With the 2009 season coming to an end, Beckham agreed to rejoin Milan for a second loan spell commencing January 2010. Beckham marked his return by featuring in the 5-2 victory over Genoa and since then has gone on to feature five times for Milan. With Milan still in the Champions League, Beckham is in contention for a mouth watering return to Old Trafford in which he spent eleven years wearing the United badge.

However, the main focus on Beckham’s return to Milan is arguably because of a tougher and physical presence in Serie A with appearances on the pitch during Galaxy’s close season aiming to gain a spot in the England squad headed for South Africa.
The former Man United star who bagged 87 goals in 399 appearances for the club is England’s most capped outfield player with 115 appearances and noted as one of England’s best ever players with his set pieces regarded as the best.

With Beckham enjoying his football at the San Siro and continuing to impress, he stands a fantastic chance of securing his place on the plane to another World Cup.

Beckham will aim to impress during his spell at Milan.
