So, Scott Vernon is off the mark for the SPL season. Craig Brown has informed Aberdeen fans on many occasions that as soon as Vernon scored a goal, he would gain confidence and a goal rush would not be far away. I would like to strongly disagree.
I fail to see where this confidence is going to appear from, for he has only scored one goal and not a hat-trick of overhead kicks. Scott Vernon is not lethal enough to have a goal rush season. But I wouldn’t say he doesn’t deserve a place in the team. As a central attacking midfielder I believe he would excel, for his ability to bring down the long ball and hold up the play until support has arrived. With him controlling balls from deep inside our own half before then dishing the ball out wide to Ryan Fraser or Johnny Hayes and running into the box to attack a cross from either winger, I could see Aberdeen scoring a lot more goals.
Niall McGinn is a lot more clinical looking in front of goal. When he gets the opportunity to shoot, he shoots, whereas Scott Vernon has the tendency to hesitate and waste the opportunity
