Southampton go into today’s game in better form than their opponents, QPR, who currently have the worst form in the Championship.
The Saints have taken 10 points from their last 6 games and looked a side revitalised after wins against promotion chasing Preston and Cardiff in recent weeks. QPR, on the other hand have taken just 2 points from their last 6 matches having only scored 2 goals.
A lot was expected of QPR this season, due to their new status as “the richest team in Britain” however they’ve failed to set the Championship alight as they hover in 11th place, 9 points outside of the playoff places. Southampton are still inside the bottom 3, however current form suggests they have the capabilities to remain in the league, although with so many other teams still not safe from the drop it won’t be easy.
It has been reported that Saints are without any fresh injury problems following Tuesday nights 1-1 draw with Nigel Clough’s Derby County with the only change possibly being Adam Lallana coming into the starting eleven. QPR have new loanee Adel Taarabt from Tottenham who is expected to make his debut for the Hoops. Leading scorer Dexter Blackstock looks set to face his old club, with strike partner Heider Helguson remaining a doubt.
Southampton boss Mark Wotte set his team a target of 5 wins from their last 9 and his side will be looking to take the full 3 points from today’s game to continue their battle against survival, but QPR have a talented side and will be looking to resurrect their promotion bid this afternoon and defy the form book.
Kick off, 3pm, St Mary’s Stadium.
