Stoke City FC – April Player Of The Month Vote – Result

Congratulations to Liam Lawrence who becomes the second winner of my Player of the Month vote, taking the prize for April. Though I’m surprised that anyone would have the daring to deny Abdoulaye Faye the award, the winger came through the poll on top, amassing as many votes as all the other candidates put together.

Lawrence also wins the award for “World’s Most Sinuous Man”

He certainly did impress in April, being a key part of the team that gained seven points from a possible twelve during it, to put us on the cusp of safety, as well as scoring the key late winner against Blackburn and assisting Faye for his strike in our draw against Newcastle.

After his bizarre ankle injury sustained back in September when tripping over his pet dog kept him sidelined for the best part of five months, Lawrence at first looked slow and blunt on his return, but in April his sharpness seemed to return, and his performances were again close to the level of last season when he won the official player of the season award after scoring fifteen goals from midfield, a feat crucial to our promotion. Perhaps in the future we’ll look back on April and say he was crucial to our survival this year.

March 2009: Ryan Shawcross
