Will Sven Be Aiming Too High In January?

The January transfer window is now open, and it seems Leicester City have already made some business on the opening day. Hibernian and Ivory Coast centre back Sol Bamba is close to agreeing terms, while Manchester City centre back Ben Mee has agreed a loan deal. Also today Tamworth have signed Foxes academy star Richard Yussuf, and Leicester have been linked with yet another loan move for Aston Villa’s Isaiah Osbourne.

However with around £10 million to spend over the next month, Sven Goran Eriksson has promised big name signings and he certainly hasn’t doubted any Leicester City fans. The former England manager, has already approached none other than one of Britain’s elite sporting stars, David Beckham, Tottenham Hotspur striker Robbie Keane and Roque Santa Cruz. With names like that flying around, you certainly wouldn’t think players of that calibre will be joining a mid-table Championship club. Only last week another high profile name was mentioned, out of favour goalkeeper Shay Given also attracted interest from the Swede. Are these the type of players Leicester City need, even if you have a world class name in Sven Goran Eriksson in charge, it doesn’t mean the likes of David Beckham and Robbie Keane will join your club.

Some names mentioned with a possible move to the Walkers Stadium include Habib Beye, Michael Johnson and former England international Emile Heskey. After leaving the club over 10 years ago, Emile Heskey has been heavily linked with a return to his home town club; however we all know Emile Heskey is not prolific enough than he was all those years ago. Even though the 32 year old is classed as a target man, he became a fans favourite of Leicester City to a laughing stock of the England national team. Is there any point in going back to old routes and signing Emile Heskey?

Lastly manager Sven Goran Eriksson has stated that he isn’t willing to make any drastic changes to the squad, even though a good number of players have been mentioned. Even though it’s early days, two players have already walked through the Walkers Stadium doors and a new goalkeeper and a new striker could be set to follow. There will also be a number of players exiting the Walkers Stadium over the next month, Matty Fryatt and Michael Morrison are on the verge of signing for Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday respectively, the dead wood of the side including Robbie Neilson, Michael Lamey, Moreno and Leon Crncic could also be axed. The likes of Bruno Berner and Matt Oakley could also be in danger as they are slowly falling out of favour under the services of Sven. The fans have already shown their desire, of the players that will be needed and the players who will be going out. Will we see a high profile player, or will Sven listen to the fans and get in high profile Championship or League 1 players?
