Urziceni Await Motivated Gers

Rangers 1-4 Unirea Urziceni – October 20th 2009

A date that will be remembered as an early halloween for many Rangers fans, including myself, who simply cringe at the thoughts of this horror night.

Crisis-ridden Rangers travel to Bucharest to face Dan Petrescu’s Romanian cracks in Matchday 4 of the UEFA Champions League. Its simply win or bust; There is no matter of a draw, Rangers MUST go there and defeat the Ghost that haunted Ibrox on October 20th. Unirea’s stadium doesn’t fit UEFA’s criteria so the game has been moved to the home of Steaua Bucharest – where Motherwell lost 3-0 back in August. Despite this being the Romanian’s home fixture, I wouldn’t rule out Rangers supporters out numbering their Romanian counterparts in the stadium.

There is no motivation required, if our players aspire to be in with the cream of Europe then they have to win. If I’m being honest, despite the off-the park troubles we’re having, this game has come at a really good time for me. Rangers have played some very neat, positive football in their last two games, well one and a half after the postponement at Tannadice on Sunday. We might be 3rd, but the inclusions of 17 year-old Danny Wilson and the improvements to the overall team performance are a real positive on the pitch.

Walter has a dilemma, does he give Danny Wilson his Champions League debut?

I think he should.

Lee McCulloch is in the squad and I probably expect him to come back into the team, but Dundee United are better than Unirea and Wilson handled it really well in awful conditions. I hope Walter is positive, we have played some really good stuff in the last two games and we have been really positive of late in a very advanced 4-4-2.
