Holland coach Marco Van Basten said that he is confident that his side can triumph against Italy tonight. Van Basten lost Van Persie (fitness problems probably not in tonight’s match) and Robben (groin injury) and such valuable midfield duo may set the midfield problems alight for the Oranje. Just like Italy have defensive problems on the other hand, with Cannavaro out of the tournament and Panucci more than likely to skip tonight’s match as a prevention to remove any knee injury doubts.
“Robben is a bit better and ran today (but) he will be out for seven to ten days,” he said.
“He’s an important player, especially when he is on form and we will really miss him against Italy. But we came through a portion of the qualifiers without him and other injured players.
“Therefore we are capable of playing and winning without him. We have also found a good solution (to replace him) but I won’t tell you which one.”
Van Basten looks confident ahead of his opening match against the World Champions and with the Azzurri looking for nothing but 3 points tonight, the Group of Death may just well spur on surprises. Let’s hope not!
