Van der Vaart has not hidden his desire to make a dream move to the Premiership this summer but won’t take any decisions before the Euro 2008 campaign for Holland is over. The earliest time when he can theoretically make a decision is Saturday 21st June, should Holland be kicked out of Euro 2008 by Russia. However, Holland’s chances are very high, and thus it may be longer before Rafael announces his decision. The leaders for the creative midfielder’s signature are Manchester United and Chelsea.
The former may be seeking a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, after he made clear his intention to leave for Real Madrid, although they wouldn’t let him go without a fight. Ferguson and the Glazers are determined to hold onto him, but a club cannot possibly keep a player against his wishes and expect him to play well. There is also the possibility that Ronaldo goes on strike until a deal with Real is negotiated. On the other hand, Chelski new boss Scolari is set to be given a massive transfer warchest to deliver the 2008/09 UEFA Champions League and domestic title. It will be a big fight between the two clubs for his signature.
“Everybody knows I am willing to consider a move but my main focus is purely on the national team. I’m not interested in anything else that can put me off.” – Rafael van der Vaart
